TONY ROY BIOGRAPHY:

Tony Roy, reggae singer has one enduring passion – MUSIC. It came as no real surprise that this talented musician, who hails from the parish of St.

Thomas, Jamaica, chose music as his career path and is still performing today. His confidence in his God given ability and recognition of his musical talent led young Fitzroy Gordon, aka Tony Roy, to quietly and bravely defy his parents and materialized his ultimate passion. He admits that the lack of support from close family and friends made his decision to pursue music more challenging.

He continued to work with his music and was called upon to represent his high school band as a percussionist and vocalist. Tasks he performed with true gusto. Once Tony graduated from high school, he and some of his school band members formed a band called “The Chosen People” with Tony as the lead singer and drummer. They toured Jamaica and recorded several popular songs.

They were extremely talented and this led to several international tours to the United States and Canada from 1985-1987. They opened for several artists including Tony’s mentor the late Dennis Brown. Due to other commitments the band split, but Tony Roy used that opportunity to launch his solo career. With that step out in faith, he did several shows and recordings with numerous production companies.

Tony Roy migrated to the United States in 1997 where he met and performed with several local reggae performers at numerous venues. He then decided to branch out and formed his own reggae band, Yawd Lynk. He and his band have performed at various venues on the east coast. He had the opportunity to open for Michael Rose, Sister Carol and Alpha Blondy at Howard Theatre in Washington, DC.

He has also shared the stage with reggae artists such as Beres Hammond, Leroy Sibbles, Freddie McGregor, Frankie Paul, Kymani Marley, Buju Banton, Etana, Tiger, Sugah, Anthony Malvo, Romaine Virgo, and others. Many honors have been bestowed to Tony Roy. His first single, Hungry for Your Love earned him the 2008 Best Recording at the DC Reggae Awards show.

This single did extremely well in North America and the Caribbean. His first full CD, Waiting List won Best Recording and Best Producer of the year in 2010 at the DC Reggae Awards. In 2011 the Best Male Vocalist was awarded to Tony Roy by the DC Reggae Awards. Hungry for Your Love was nominated twice for Best Reggae Song by the Washington Arts and Music Awards.

In 2012 he was also awarded Best Male Vocalist by DC Reggae Awards. Just Gwaan, from the Waiting List CD, hit #1 for two weeks on the Richie B Top 25 Reggae Singles chart in Jamaica, and #1 for one week on Captain Kirk’s Miami Chart on Radio WAVS. Also, from the Waiting List CD, Yawd Mi Born and Your Love Has Changed have been garnering great response throughout the US, Jamaica and the UK.Tony has performed at various venues up and down the east coast and Jamaica.

Tony has performed at the following venues: Washington Post Summer Reggae in the Park in Washington, DC, Jamaica Day Festival at Arundel Playground, in Arundel, MD Budweiser Summer Reggae Fest at RFK in Washington, DC Linganore Wine Festival in Mt. Airy, MD Howard Theatre in Washington, DC Shenanigan in Sea Isle City, NJ Jamaica Wine Festival in Montego Bay, Jamaica MOJA Art Festival in Charleston, SC Long Trout Wine Festival in Auburn, PA Jammin’ for the Animals, in Reading, PA Carifesta Music & Arts Festival in Washington, DC and many more.Tony Roy has been busy over the years performing and promoting his songs.

His music is earning him a reputation as one of the most promising and enduring reggae artist, by keeping positive reggae music alive. His melodic sound appeals to a vast and growing audience with an ultimate combination of positive energy, sensational lyrics and smooth vocals, which are unmatched.

Tony released his CD “Road Block” on June 12, 2015 and not long after, his track, “Dancehall Nice” climbed its way to the #2 spot on the Top 30 Foundation Radio Network Chart in New York, and also reached #30 on the Top 100 Foundation Radio Network Chart for 2015. Several songs from the CD continue to earning tremendous air time on several radio stations throughout Jamaica, North America and the UK.

This CD embodies some of the obstacles he faced during his career, which why it deemed the title, “Road Block”. On October 31, 2016 Tony will unleash his newest single, “Bad Dog”. This new single has an up tempo beat and an addictive lyric that you will find yourself singing over and over. “Bad Dog” will have you running to the dance floor just like that!
